A friend of mine purchased the subject TV 2 years ago for Christmas. I believe the model number is MD14SP1. Yesterday the picture went dead. Since yesterday when trying to turn this on, it comes on for a second and shuts down. It doesn't matter how long this is left to cool down. Any suggestions? Is this worth having repaired?

Shutdown is often caused by over-current. Something is shorted or otherwise gone west. One must balance replacement cost versus service cost. Toshiba stuff is generally decent and it might be worth fixing if it is two years old. Get an estimate.
