Samsung VCR with sound/video problem?

I have a slightly broken Samsung SV-651B VCR, which plays and records (albeit in monochrome) but the sound does not work on any mode.

On playback, the picture seems to be mistracking in a cycle, yet it responds to tracking adjustment.

There seems to be an overheating problem in the LA71750 A/V control IC but the cheapest one can be purchased for is =A322 (!!!!)

Most of the remote functions work but the front panel buttons on the RHS do not work at all, when Play is pressed "7ES7" comes up in the display.

has anyone seen this fault before?

thanks, -A

'slightly' broken? blimey, you mention about 5 different faults there

- audio, b/w, mistracking, sys control....! have you changed the power supply caps, as this multitude of symptoms may be due to power rails being screwed up.

unless the vcr is a real high end model it will not be feasible to fix. As people 'upgrade' (sic!) to dvd-r , decent VHS decks can be had for a pittance or free on freecycle. may be easier to go that route-
