rca F27450 tv problem

Feb 12, 2006 4 Replies

A helium balloon drifted to my tv and touched the screen and I assume from running across the carpet it built an electrical charge and when it touched the screen the tv went out for a second and came back on, but now the remote does not work and the power light on the tv no longer comes on, this sucks because now I can't even switch inputs so the dvd player works how can I fix this?

Hi!

I would unplug the TV for a few hours (possibly overnight) and then try it again later.

I don't find it likely that the two occurrences were related. A TV tube can generate a lot of static electricity in normal operation.

If your TV does not work properly after leaving it unplugged for a while, then it very likely needs service. You should not attempt to service it yourself without knowing how to work safely inside electronic devices that use high voltage. Television sets can be dangerous to work on.

First try unplugging the set from the mains for about a minute to let it reset. If this does not help, it is possible that there has been some damage to the controler area, or the EPROM information has some damage. If this is the case, you will have to take the set to a tech who is set up to be able to reprogram the EPROM if need be, also to troubleshoot the set.
