Pushbutton mini-switches under system telephone buttons

I have some Toshiba Strata VI telephones, part of a system I am bringing back to life. Some of the CO buttons don't switch on at all, or do so with difficulty, and by desoldering a switch from a button location that worked and resoldering to a location that didn't work, I confirm that the mini-switches are the problem.

Now all I have to do is figure out what they are and where to get perhaps a dozen of these.

They are miniature or sub-miniature pushbuttons measuring 0.238" square (6.05mm) and are 0.164" high (4.17mm) from base to top-of-button. There are (4) solder leads pointing down from the corners of the base.

Can anyone identify these switches, and preferably also tell me where to get them?

(Some of the numeric touchpad buttons also work less than well on these, and those use larger pushbutton momentary switches. I would also be happy to know about a good source for those, but that is a secondary problem.)

Hi John,

I'm not familiar with that type of telephone but from what you describe of the switch that sounds like a tactile switch.

Do some poking around at Mouser Electronics web site

for tactile switches and you might find something exactly or close to fit your needs. You'll need Adobe Reader on your PC as the on-line catalog pages are in PDF format. Ther are about 10 pages for tactile switches but this is a direct link to page 1243 that has some switches close to what you describe...

The nice thing about Mouser is they have NO minimum order, anybody can order from them either from on-line or telephone (800) 346-6873, orders placed between

7am-8pm CTZ ship same day.

Also, you could try your local electronics repair shop. These switches are used in just about everything that they will repair - hifi's, VCR's, DVD's etc, and they will have lots of scrapped items laying about that you can cull replacement switches from. I always keep any front panels that use these switches from items that I scrap, for that exact purpose.
