Powakaddy 12v golf kart automatic battery charger model:9000E,year:1992 (guess),CSA file no:LR78410,manufactured by:

J.M.Clarke Ltd Leicester LE2 8FN England

Note:this charger charged 12v,35 ah grey colored sealed lead acid batteries (like the home alarm panel ones but bigger).This unit had three LEDs:

Red=Power Yellow=Charge Green=finnished/ready

well once charged the green LED comes on but the unit keeps charging,I took my Fluke DMM series II model:29 and measured the resistance on most parts and they stated fine,I don't have an ESR meter to test the several electrolytic or tantalum.Anyone have any common repair tips?.Thanks.

The article under Workshop/how to look after your charger seems to infer that the charger will continue to trickle charge the battery after the green light has come on. ie,

"Leave the charger switched on and connected to the battery until such time as you require the battery, this will keep it fully charged."

A typical 35Ah SLA will be rated at the 20 hour rate which makes the nominal charging current over this period about 1.75A. Of course, a normal charger will put a much higher current than this into the battery initially but that doesn't matter when it comes to calculating the trickle charge. A typical recommended trickle charge current (at constant voltage) is 0.15 x CA or 0.15 x 1.75 = 262mA, but this is the maximum recommended, so it can be less. The trickle charge is only meant to compensate for the self discharge loss in the battery.

How did you measure with your Fluke?

You should have it connected in series with the charge lead to the battery and set to a high amps scale. When the green light comes on the charge current should drop down to around 250mA or thereabouts.
