"Plgn Motor Error" on "TI Microlaser Plus" printer

Ancient but it was working a year ago. :)

Now, after a couple minutes, the red ERROR LED comes on with a high pitched beep and the LCD displays something like "Plgn Motor Error". Then, only powering off gets it to reset. Eventually, it may go through and print a page.

Thanks for any info, though it's probably going to become parts.....

I'm sure you have Googled around and found, as I did, that most answers are simply "Have it serviced". I did find one site saying that the meaning of the message is "A problem with the PSU, PCU, optical unit, or PSU door switch". Now, even I can diagnose and fix a door switch. Dunno about the rest.

The fixyourownprinter.com site has a forum in which someone posted "I was able to make unit work breifly by tapping on the little PWB that monitors laser output (COPAL ELECTRONICS PU639T103)". In that case, it sounds like a bad connection, broken PCB trace - or bad door switch.

Since this PCB monitors laser output, is it possible that some toner found its way onto the laser output window, or the sensor window?

Sorry, nothing more.

Actually, that is useful. The meaning for "plgn" I believe is "polygon", so the scanner mirror motor. And, I believe that once, when closing the topp, the error did go away briefly. Considering that this printer gets hardly any use, reseating all connectors would probably be a worthwhile first step.

Now to figure out how to get in there. :)

Thanks!
