Philco Predicta Query

Thanks to all who answered previous posts re the ctc169. I have the opportunity to buy a mint condition Modern Danish, (pedestal), model predicta from the gentleman who owns the RCA tv with that chassis mentioned above, so succesfully repairing his newer tv is key to getting the deal in the first place. By that I mean, if I repair his 36" tv, I'll feel alot better about purchasing this rare pearl. He is selling it to me for $1000, (Cdn), and I think this is more than fair. It is in new condition cosmetically. What do you think? Keep in mind that a tv of this vintage definatley needs electronic restoration, this much I know, even if it's not working now, no worries. P.S. I'm still not done with that RCA yet...I'll keep you posted. Cheers, Steve

I have two Predictas (both given to me), and while they are very cool, they are marginal TVs (I'm being kind). The biggest problem is the heat buildup which causes frequent breakdown. Figure on replacing EVERY paper cap in the TV, and I would replace the electrolytics as well. I would also check the resistance of every resistor. If the CRT and flyback are good, it should be usable if not over used.

As far as market value, that seems high for a non-restored Predicta. I hope you're not planning on throwing in the 169 repair on top of the $1000.
