monitor woes

My son's computer is acting up. When booting the monitor goes into sleep mode and will not come on. Monitor or computer problem?

Thanks

I would try another monitor on you son's computer or your son's monitor on someone elses computer. The monitors connectors between different types are all compatable. Should be able to work it out from there.

You will have to try another compatible monitor to know.

Do you mean it starts off OK but when it gets to a certain point in the boot process it goes into sleep mode? If so, that is almost certainly because the refresh rate setting in windows is set too high for your monitor, is it possible it has been changed?.

Try booting in safe mode, going into the graphics card's properties dialogue and setting the refresh to 60Hz. Reboot normally and see what happens. If that fixes it, try upping the refresh rate to 70 or 72 Hz.
