Hi. Mitsubishi VS-8078 set. Need a red crt as this one is shorted, cannot bring raster down to a reasonable level.. Does show video. Tried crt board on different but problem did not follow board.
This is the bigger version tube, not the little one.

Check that model number and post the mitsubishi part number and the type number off of the CRT.

You might try isolating the heater, it sounds like it could be a H-K short. Could possibly get a few more years out of the tube you have.
That is what I am kinda leaning towards, using a short isolating transformer. Have had good luck with them in the past.
