JVC projection TV (av-56wp30) intermittently loses picture

We had the TV for about 3 and half years. Recently, after it powers up, either the picture is perfectly normal, or you'll see nothing but solid green flickering on the top 2/3 of the screen, the bottom of the screen is black, with an arch shaped bordering between the two. When the latter happens, seems like only the green gun is working to produce a solid green, no picture. A Sears repairman came out, but didn't find anything. He suspected there is a loose connection somewhere on the signal board since the problem is intermittent. Any insight is appreciated.

You MAY have a bad CRT, unplug the green to see if the unit will stay on. Dani.

Yup either a bad CRT or your convergance amps have a bad solder joint. pull off the speaker grille and then the cardboard or wood shield, you will see 2 large heat sinks on a board. turn on the set and lightly wiggle the heat sinks one at a time and see if it temporary stops your problem . If it does the pull that board out it just unclips and resolder all the joints it is quite common on that model
