Delayed Problem with Floppy Disk Drive

Dec 03, 2006 2 Replies

Hi,

I have a Compaq Contura 410C laptop (bought around 1997) which I do not use a lot. When I first power it up (external power, not battery), the floppy disk drive works just fine for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, I have trouble reading floppy disks (drive not ready type of problem).

I tried a different power supply, but that isn't the cause. Could this problem be something other than the floppy drive?

Thanks in advance, Brad

Before you type your password, credit card number, etc., be sure there is no active keystroke logger (spyware) in your PC.

Did you let the battery charge for awhile or does this laptop run fine even with no battery installed?

Could be a controller, power supply, or cable problem. It is probably worth reseating internal cables and PCBs if it hasn't been used for a long time.
