Hello all!At work, there was an old computer monitor kicking around without itscasing. It got shoved and moved around until the CRT socket board hitthe table the wrong way and broke off the end of the tube. All of themetal bits (electron guns, filament, etc) came out with the bit ofglass around the pins, so now I have the circuit boards in the salvagepile and this funny-shaped glass bottle on my desk. (It still has themetal band around the front rim.)It occurs to me that it might be amusing to make a beer glass out ofthis thing. However, I don't think that CRT phosphors and the aquadagon the inside are part of the four basic food groups. I've thought ofthree ways to deal with this problem.1. Erosion - put a handful of sand, rocks, or bolts in the tube and shake it around to abrade the phospors and conductive coating. Then rinse well.2. Corrosion - put in a mild acid or other chemical that will dissolve the unwanted material. Then rinse well.3. Sealing - pour in some food-safe coating and slosh it around to coat the entire inside of the glass, covering up the phosphors etc.I realize that if I want to drink out of the neck, I won't be able tofill it more than about halfway, so that there will be an air gap abovethe beer when I try to drink from it. I guess I could punch out theanode connector to make an air hole, or just drink from a long straw.Also I'll have to polish the edges of the neck glass where the basebroke off.Has anybody tried doing this before? What worked or didn't work? Isthis a bad idea for some reason I haven't thought of?Thanks!Matt Roberds

You have to have ample head space, and an opening large enoughto be able to enjoy the "nose" of the beer before pulling a longdraft. Suggest you go to to check out the stylesof beers, and what kind of glass they are best enjoyed from (and whatfoods they go best with) ...Cheers!
