Uses of Function Generator

For those using a Function Generator. What do you use it for?? I planned to own one so I can connect a 10 volts light bulb to it and see how it would behave if I use sine wave, square wave and up it to 10 Mhz. (I expect the light bulb to light up in the outside side of the Function generator right). Also want to use a speaker load to see what happens.

Anyway. What are the uses of Function Generator generally, pls. mention 12 applications. Tnx.

Dave

P.S. Sorry about the other post "QM book recommendation". It is supposed to be posted to sci.physics

We don't normally answer homework questions but....

Function generator and signal generators are typically used to simulate a signal(s) from a source that can't be used for some reason:

Examples:

The real source is not available or not accessible (eg Mars rover sensor) . It's too expensive to use the normal source (Ditto) The real source can't be controlled (eg synchronised to other events) It's output isn't repeatable enough (eg Earthquake sensor)
