I'll try and keep this brief-ish.
My car Sat Nav relies far too much on the ECU speed pulse. The speed pulse has been taken from the speedo which doesn't start to read until at least 10 miles/hour so in traffic the Sat Nav often thinks you are stationary when you aren't, meaning you can easily miss your turning.
I've located the speed pulse wire from the sensor to the ECU. Voltmeter shows 12 volts with the ignition on. Scope shows about a 1 volt peak to peak negative going pulse at all speeds. The input to the Sat Nav is protected by a diode so the twelve volt component isn't a problem so I've connected my new speed signal to the Sat Nav and it can't see the signal. I'm guessing the diode is blocking it.
I guess I now need to build a small circuit to turn my negative going pulse into a positive one. Maybe even up it to 5 volts. Any simple solution around to solve this one? The Sat Nav calibrates itself to the number of pulses it gets so it might be an advantage to double the number of pulses if that doesn't go above what the Sat Nav will work to. More pulses the quicker the Sat Nav will respond to them.
