Problems with the sound of my VHS magnetoscope

Hi



I have a Sony vhs magnetoscope, wen I play some video cassette the sound are very low, it's come back if I do fast forward or rewind wen it's still play, it's do it more with recorded casette then one rented in a video store.


Any hints or solutions ?

Head alignment and/or wear. I often observe that some of my old tapes have less tracking problems if I first fast-forward them to the end in the new machine, then rewind before playing.

Perhaps the suund/audio head is dirty. It's the usually a fixed upright one, with a metal shield round it. Try a cleaning tape, or an audio tape head cleaning kit if you are up to taking the cover off. The control track head is also part of the same unit.

the fact that the fault clears up a bit after ff or rew suggests the pinch roller may be warped and skewing the tape up or down - clean or replace it. Ben
