OT: Wild Weather

From the other links I understand Abel Tasman didn't name it, but the people in the Netherlands did while making a map. NZ was probably described as 'country consisting of islands'. Well euhmm, okay, we name it New Zealand. Coffee anyone?

Pay attention people, this man knows the extreme local conditions well. There are enough heat stroke deaths and incredible sun burns now, don't risk it! Also the dreaded "Valley Fever" CAN burn your brains out! I've seen the vacant stares of the stricken!

Remember in the summer you can fry eggs on the hood of a car, and inside temperatures CAN get up to 180 Degrees 'F'. You can be sent to prison for leaving a dog or child in the Car.

If you know anyone in Arizona, please try to convince them to leave before the end!

For those of you who favor Gun control, bear in mind that anyone (with the usual exceptions) can wear a gun on their belt anywhere in Arizona except in a Federal office or Court building.

Traffic is terrible and the SMOG is being used to build new houses!

Did I mention the Jail in Maricopa County is a tent camp in the desert?

No country club housing for inmates!

The indigenous wild life includes Diamond Back Rattlesnakes, sidewinders, and Gila Monsters, all are venomous. The local predators include bobcats and Cougars. You can see Turkey Vultures almost anytime cleansing the desert of carrion. There are RED ants half an inch long whose byte is very painful.

The City of Flagstaff is on the side of a volcano (tallest peak in the state).

Keeping vermin under control is always a problem in Arizona.

You forgot to add that, since it doesn't rain often, the cities don't build storm sewers. Instead, they simply smooth the transitions of streets accross the natural stream beds. When it does rain, you can't drive anywhere in a straight line in any vehicle smaller than a Hummer. I wasn't about to try fording some of those streams in Mr. Hertz's subcompact Chevy!

Hey Dennis!

Still summer here, I guess this is the week. I'm a Shore guy too, though the missus dragged me over the bridge to Epsom. We move back over to Devonport next week though, so all is right with the world again. :-)

Where in the Bays are you? I was over at Fremont a while back decommissioning a satellite station - we pulled down antennas one by one and re-erected them here in Auckland.
