Low drop out linear regulator stability

Has anyone used a resistor in the output circuit of an LDO to ensure the required ESR needed for stability?

Some (most?) LDO linear regulators have to be used with output capacitors that have an ESR in a specific range in order to ensure stability (eg you can't just slap any old 100nF ceramic cap on the output). So what do you do if you have high frequency IC that need to be decoupled?
