CIE?

Hello everyone,

Has anyone on this forum taken a course from the "Cleveland Institute of Electronics" (CIE), and if so, what is your opinion of the school? Is it worth the money?

If you don't won't to reply on this newsgroup, please email me at jcd (at) atlantic.net.

Any opinions will be greatly appreciated!

Another one is to stop BEFORE you post and think "Which group(s) would be appropriate for this?"

Yes, I took their Electronics Engineering course in the mid 60s. A good course, accurate material, useful exercises. Of course, that was 40+ years ago, and I'm quite sure that almost everything has changed. Answers to the test questions didn't always come verbatim from the books... they made you think and actually do some deductive thinking to arrive at an answer. The course was quite beneficial in helping to prepare me for college level courses... most were a breeze after having the CIE course. I don't know the current costs of the courses, but when I was studying, I used my GI Bill benefits and the cost was quite affordable, even on my meager salary.

I still have a few of the books from the course. And the slide rule, which was the calculator of the time, had a good number of electronic functions and scales on it. I seriously doubt that I could now use it for anything but the simplest operations. Wonder how many others have the old CIE slide rule?

So you have to take my comments with a box of salt, since my experience was so long ago. Things might have changed drastically with CIE since then.
