Protecting USB host port

Dec 01, 2008 2 Replies

Hi, I'm looking for a solution to protect a USB host port in an automotive environment, which means

- from short circuits between any pin and GND, which is easy

- from short circuits between any pin and Vcc (16V) which is giving us trouble

Any advice?

Thanks

Try a series resistor and clamping diodes to Vcc. This will probably seriously reduce circuit speed.

You can perhaps galvanicaly isolate the USB Interface. Look at

for suitable isolators.
