Poweline Communication, possible in India?

Hello,

I am a newbie to this forum. I am working on a project, where I have been asked to check feasibility of using powerline communication for doing something similar to home automation. I am from India, and we have 220VAC/50Hz electric power supplied. I would like to know if there are some devices that can work in this range (X10/UPB).

I dont seem to find any discussion on this issue. Would someone kindly advice me how to go about using PLCC? Its very interesting indeed. Also if there are some pointers given as to how PLCC works, and if there is a possibility of developing my own circuits for the same, I would be grateful.

Thanks in anticipation, Raja

You havent said what data rate and distance you require, but have a look at the TDA5051 datasheet from NXP, it may help you.

Hi Raja!

In Europe we have 230V/50Hz with +6%/-10% (was 220V/50Hz +/-10% before). So I think there should be enough devices around supporting that voltage range.

The main problem IMO is noise; If there is a big factory around your location causing peak demands or any other sort of noise that would be problematic. Some Filtering may be required for the whole circuit.
