Ph.D in France

Hi, I am working in the field of embedded systems(FPGA'S/microcontroller based). I want to do PhD in this field in France. But I don't have any information about French universities well known in this area of research. Please tell the top universities of France in this area. Thanks, Muhammad Ihsan Baig

I have notices a hell of a lot of people studying PhD's , Masters and "advanced courses" form some parts of the world do not seem to be able to use search engines let alone do basic research.

I know "Ecole des Mines de Paris" which is one of the top 5 five "Grandes Ecoles" in France (France has an elitist system with some Engineering "schools" that are more prestigious than universities and that are called "Grandes Ecoles d'Ingénieurs") has a specialization in embedded systems. That could be an entry point for you.

FWIW: one of my old bosses was a graduate from the Ecole des Mines. I used to kid him about his lamp.

He was good, too. Clearly learned a thing or two there.

Steve, Have you read "A Year in the Merde"? It's a hilarious story about an Englishman who spends a year in Paris on a contract to set up a chain of tea rooms.

If you've read the story, how did your time in Paris compare to that in the story?

I found the story to be both entertaining and enlightening. Most of my experience with the French has been with military and scientific types, so French business practices were new territory for me.

I've only visited Paris twice--just enough to learn that, if you speak a bit of French, it can be a wonderful place to visit.

No, I haven't, but I will. Thanks for the heads-up.

My family moved to Paris when I was a kid. I kinda grew up there - mid to late 60s, including May '68...

They still are to me. I've not worked in France for a french employer... My French boss was in England for a Canadian employer ;).

I used to love Paris. Not so sure about it anymore... last few times I've been I've had a deeply weird time...

I am not aware of anywhere in the World in which supposed researchers who are not capable of research do not exist.
