PALCE & GAL Devices

Jul 28, 2005 5 Replies

I have been led to believe tha PALCE devices are fuse (and everything else!) compatable with GAL devices.

Is this correct?

More specifically, can a JEDEC file aimed at a Cypress PALCE20V8 be programmed into a Lattice GAL20V8 without modification?

Thanks in advance,

as much as I recall you are correct. we used PALCE and GAL in the same design with the same JEDEC file. the actual programming algorithm is different but otherwise they should be compatible

My device programmer shows 2706 fuse counts in all Atmel ATF20V8, lattice GAL20V8, and PALCE20V8 devices. Have you tried it yet ?

Probably. I do have vague memories of some AMD PALCE devices having differing fuse counts to the corresponding GAL, but GAL files still working. If the fuse count is the same then it is pretty likely they are compatible.

Thanks for all the comments. The JEDEC file created for a Cypress PALCE20V8 appears to work perfectly in a Lattice GAL20V8. :-)

Cheers
