OT: new "report spam" button on google groups

I used it on the spam in this group last 2-3 days. Perhaps others will try it as well, let's see what effect if any it will have. Blacklisting spam sources may or may not be easy, but since they seem to have initiated something about it I won't mind doing my part for some time.

The only effect it will have is that those readers of the group who filter based on username will now have even more usernames to deal with. Making reports to Google Groups is a complete waste of time; if you consider the case I cited, it's _worse_ than useless.

Google Groups is the moron class of Google personnel. The abuse system is fully automated and hasn't been changed SINCE ITS INCEPTION.

**IF** Google would note the email address of spammers and not allow any further posts from someone using an address that is associated with spam, THAT would show that they have *some* interest in this. THEY DON'T.

When a critical mass of abuse reports is reached, the automated system cancels *the account*. Spammers can establish a new account in 3 nanoseconds and can use THE VERY SAME email address to sign up for that.

If you think you are going to affect Google's business model via abuse reports, you are delusional. The **ONLY** thing that would get Google's attention would be a precipitous drop in page loads.

This "feature" is NOT new. It was *removed* quite some time back and has only recently been put back (in a higher-visibility spot) to give THE APPEARANCE of concern.

Nothing has, in fact, changed.

I disagree. I believe that Google has made it worse.

Originally, they recommended using a "throw-away" address to post so you would not get spammed. Later, they changed it to force you to use a real address. But they still recommend that you use a throw-away address; they just won't let you follow their recommendation.

Why is it I can never find cricket bat when I really need one?

Somebody has actually deleted/hidden the spam!

Wow I clicked the report spam button on a couple of messages and now they have disappeared.

I wonder how long it will take the spammers to work out a way around this takedown method or for it to be used by the more vitriolic flame warriors to try and silence the objects of their hatred?
