Laser pointer power requirements?

Does anyone know what kind of current a 4.5 volt laser pointer needs to draw?

It's for a somewhat stupid project. Where I work we have 5 library stools that are never where you need them and can be difficult to find in the stacks. I'd like to rig up a laser pointer to point at the ceiling and power it with some solar cells.

I suspect it depends on the model you choose.

One problem: all it takes is one litigation-minded patron to bend over the stool, look down into the light (deliberately or not) and cry "Retinal damage! Lawsuit!".

If you chose a pointer that warns "don't look into the beam" (try finding one that doesn't), you're sunk.

You might be better off with an LED flashlight in a tube to direct the light upwards. It's still harsh to look into, but not damaging.

I'll echo Randy's sentiment that having a laser on continuously, directed upward from near floor level, in a public place is a BAD idea. Even if nobody damages there eyes, there is a tripping hazard if somebody catches the beam in their eye while stepping on or off the stool.

As an alternative, I'll suggest that you get some reflective tape from a home center or hardware store, and wrap a strip around the stool. Get a small flashlight, and then you'll be able to spot a stool along a long aisle pretty easily. You will have to search aisle by aisle, but you are already doing that anyway. The reflective tape and flashlight will help you spot them more quickly.

Regards,

Mark

A 670/650 nm diode can put out no more than 5 mW in the US and 1 mW in Europe. Knowing that you do the math.

We're not an attractive target for ambulance chasers. The money just isn't there.

That's exactly what I want to stop doing.

Injured people can sue an organization or any person or persons involved in the events that led to their injury *personally* for whatever assets those persons may have.

Take the good advice you have been given and stop being a brainless little shit.

You could motorize them and make them return to home base after 15 minutes :)

Their drive circuits do not all have the same efficiency.

Regardless of what is allowed to be emitted, the drive elements for them differ vastly.

Leave it to a Usenet KookTard to always snip anything that might f*ck with his little kooktard world.

It is your worst attribute, you stupid f*ck.

You may not think so, but in the situation you're describing, they can go after the organisation, *you* (as the one who designed the hazard), the day-to-day people in the organisation who allowed the hazard to remain in the building, etc. etc.

Some might do it 'just to prove a point', or 'to protect the other patrons', not because they expect to get rich.

The hi-brite LED in a tube will also project a larger spot on the ceiling, which will not disappear into every nook and cranny in the ceiling like a tiny red dot will.

Please consider a non-laser alternative.

As suspected. You starred in the film Total Retard.

Your bullshit doesn't work, wussy boy. The record is there for all the world to see, because no matter how much of a sniptard you are, the original posts remain.

Your sniptard baby bullshit only affirms how f****ng wrong you were.

The power limits you mentioned are for OUTPUT, NOT consumption, dipshit.

Face it, you were and are 100% wrong (as usual) for giving industry output limits when input consumption is clearly the requisite.

So the SLAP is upon you, dumbfuck!

BWuahahahahahahahahahah!

As evidenced by ANY simple google groups look up, your demand that I do not, nor your retarded declaration that I cannot are proven utter bullshit every time.

Does it really bug you that you cannot stop me?

I hope so. You are pathetic, and if I wanted to follow around your every f****ng post I could, and there is not a goddamned thing you can do about it, KookTARD! Except, of course, your current 100% immature baby bullshit method of retreating from the fact that you are full of shit... again!
