Any experience of Winsource? I've never used them but they claim to be able to supply parts we can't find. Are they trustworthy?

I ran across them while looking for unobtainium. They never actually found any parts for me. I also never found any parts from sources I could trust other than US brokers who took responsibility for testing. I just had one locate 900 parts in two batches. 400 were good, 500 had issues with solderability.

Winsource seems to be a large company with a real presence. I have no idea if they can find your parts. If you'd like, I can give you contact info for the US brokers I'm using. If anyone else has US brokers with good contacts I'd be interested. I still need 1,600 units of a very hard to find part.

Thanks. I was asking for a client who's looking for generally less than

100 of any part. One of his engineers suggested Winsource and he asked me if I'd heard of them, which I hadn't, so I asked here.

One problem is that these things are necessarily used beyond their published temperature ratings, and qualifying them takes a lot of time, so substitutions are difficult.

He's decided to try Winsource out with an order for 40 chips. We'll see how it goes.

I am guessing that the solder-ability problem was mainly due to oxides and sulfides. Are there any processes that can clean that up?

Tangentially, one customer has taken to buying non ROHS parts because that's what he can get. He then uses the old technique of a series of lead-free solder baths to remove the lead.

It doesn't take much lead to lower the melting point enough such that parts desolder themselves when used at high temperature.

Wash with vinegar may work. Rinse well. SMD devices may need to be baked before wave soldering.

Back in the days of glass Nixie tubes, I had the unsolderable leads problem on a weekend, for something needed on Monday. Solution was to dip the leads in dilute battery (sulfuric) acid, rinse well, and proceed to solder with ordinary 60-40 radio solder.
