Yeah, love what you can find in the equipment maker's stuff. When working at UCSB, we often got to get demo equipment before buying to find out what REALLY worked!

Oh, we didn't have those. We had these cans that you filled part way with TCE and screwed a CO2 cartridge on it. You just sprayed the heck out of it with that... ;-)

Actually, we did have a case or two of contact cleaner. Those were a lot lighter than the big trico sprayer!

Larry Flinn was a class act all right. By by building and running his systems properly, he had one of the highest market penetration ratios in the industry. Techs were on call 24/7 and my job was to make sure they had good working spares, along with maintaining the headend. I could replace a failed Sat receiver before the answering service could forward a call to me in the evenings. Repair it, and have it back on the shelf that night, if it was worth repairing. I scrapped almost a dozen Rockwell-Collins receivers when the 4 GHz LO module died. They wanted $1500 for replacement transistors, and a new 1100 LPR was $900

The funny thing was that the Microdyne 1100 LPR had the clearest video of any commercial service C-band receiver I tested, it was also only on rack unit high, the lowest power consumption, and one of the cheapest on the market at the time. 15 years later I went to work for Microdyne with some techs that had worked there when they were in the Satellite TV market. They told me they jokingly called the 1100 LPR the 'Low Priced Receiver'.

For me - no good. I registered & got the message that it was sending my password. Didn't receive it, so after waiting 3 days I went back to the site. The site recognizes me as a registered user, but because I don't have a password I can't login & check user settings and I can't set up to get the newsgroups without a password. I clicked on the forgot password box. It gave me the message that it sent my password. Still didn't get it, so I emailed them. Got a nice E back from Wolfgang - he checked and his logs showed that the site had sent the password to verizon with the right email address for me. He recommended that I contact verizon & ask them to check their logs. Contacted verizon - they were friendly, courteous - and useless. Both Wolfgang & Verizon advised me to check my spam filters (as did the FAQ at the eternal september site) but I find no problem with them, and the E from Wolfgang arrived with no problem.

Grumble. Since it works for you, it sure seems I've done something "thick fingered" here, but so far damnedifIknowhatitis.

None of that changes the fact that I appreciate your reply, and thank you for posting. :-)

I'm guessing that your spam filter is blocking it; maybe it checks the content, and the password looks like spam - which email are you using? I got my password through my yahoo email.

When you had Verizon on the horn, did you ask them about spam filters? Tell them to NOT filter this: "News Administration"
