Hard to believe but there once was culture in Afghanistan.

I was going to say polenta but that's out too. Maybe they ignored the Pythagoreans and lived on fava beans.

Not really, most obviously with China.

That's very arguable with India.

Nope, that didnt come from the Greeks, most obviously with China and Japan.

Nope, than never came from the Greeks, even tho the Greeks did have that and it is very arguable that Japan and Singapore even have that today, let alone China, Vietnam etc etc etc.

Nope, we didnt get it from the Greeks.

Nope.

To some extent.

BULLSHIT.

Sadly, that's what it's coming down to.

Bullshit he did.

Olives, cheese, pork, chickens etc etc etc.

Sure, but your original claim that those who use raw milk typically get that result is just plain wrong.

That clearly didnt happen with those who had their own cow(s) or goats.

Far from it, but they have their fair share of anti-social swine, just like the US.

There's not all that much variation in English-speaking US culture - enough to include people who like Trump and people who can see him for what he is - but surprisingly little for a population of 330 million.

The US media does it for him. The Murdoch-owned bits of the US media do it even more thoroughly (if not particularly accurately)/

But you can't number of them.

His travel insurance company might quibble. UK tourist in the US get shot from time to time, and shipping their bodies home is expensive. Not that anybody would care about the the Natural Philosopher. He's about as lovable as Jim Thompson, and lot dumber.

Are you suggesting India wasn't literate?

What were the Greeks doing 1500 BCE? Ah, the Greek Dark Ages.

Democracy is greatly overrated. Who won the Peloponnesian Wars?

They are quite capable of filling in the holes.

The Finns got upset when the retreating German forces went burnt earth on them. I don't know what they expected after they signed the Moscow Armistice. Sweden is still ambivalent. The Sweden Democrats have nothing to do with Biden's crew though they are trying to whitewash their history a bit.

My bad. I skipped the US native part. John is out in Fruit & Nut land where places like the Chumash Casino are raking in dough. He should take a summer vacation in Montana and visit scenic Lame Deer, Browning, Rocky Boy's, Fort Peck, Fort Belknap, or Crow Agency. For extra credit he can go down to South Dakota and visit Pine Ridge.

The Flathead res is doing okay but that's because they were screwed by the Great White Father and the cowboys outnumber the Indians by 2 to 1.

The 'Indian' thing is a sensitive topic. The preferred label is the tribal designation like Kootenai or Blackfeet but there's a split over Indian versus Native American. The Indian faction feels Native American is just more white man's bullshit.

I claimed nothing of the sort. Read what I said.

Sometimes it did.

"Deaths directly caused by the war (including military and civilian fatalities) are estimated at 50–56 million, with an additional estimated

19–28 million deaths from war-related disease and famine. "

Right. 70 million is a drop in the bucket. That's only a few million more than the current population of the United Kingdom. I suppose it wasn't as bad as the Thirty Years War.

They didn't.The Greeks got all of that from the near east. Literacy goes back a long way, but alphabetic writing which is user friendly enough that most people can learn it goes back to to the Semitic languages of the Levant, and predate any Greek civilisation.

Civilisation may be cumulative, but it isn't universal - cultures reject stuff they don't like, as in Ron DeSantis censoring primary school libraries. and the US rejecting socialism because they confuse it with communism.

Here is what you said, again.

Even you should be able to see the word TYPICALLY there.

Not TYPICALLY it didnt.

Yep, the world population was about 2 billion at the time.

And lets not forget the baby boom that followed.

Cobalt-60 source. Regular cobalt is just cobalt-59 and not radio-active at all.

You tend to have enough idiot faddists to get at least one dead baby before the fad gets stamped on, so the fad typically leads to at least one dead baby, even if it doesn't a significant proportion of the kids exposed to the risky behavior.

At least one dead baby is the typical consequence

Its a typical consequences of the fad - you don't have to kill a substantial proportion of the kids exposed to the dangerous fad to establish it as a dangerous fad - just one is frequently enough.

They get at least a single death remarkably reliably, because it takes a dramatic bad result to get through to that kind of idiot.

But he probably understood what it meant, which you don't.

It didn't stop until somebody died. The death is a typical part of the history of the fad. You don't want any deaths. Even an occasional death is devastating for the family who gets to demonstrate that getting your own raw milk from your own sheep, cows or goats is a bad idea.

We had the decimal system before we had zero. It's kind of baked in to our anatomy. Roman numerals are a base-10 system.

Fireworks are not a great cultural contribution, except that they gave us cannons.

Sushi is a blip on the radar of history. From carpaccio to xató, nobody was waiting around for the Japanese to serve them raw fish.

The Marco Polo thing is a canard. They had pasta in ancient Greece, Rome, and the Middle East. Boiling a paste of flour and water is an obvious move for people who relied on community ovens to bake bread.

"There is a legend of Marco Polo importing pasta from China which originated with the Macaroni Journal, published by an association of food industries with the goal of promoting pasta in the United States."

Surely you know how many pasta sauces there are that do not involve tomatoes.

They made polenta from other stuff, like chestnuts or barley. You don't need cornmeal to make mush. I'm about to sit down to a bowl of oat mush.
