thanx 4 yr posts

hey all

i just got out of high school and started university for a computer engineering program...i am in first year and completed sem1. i am having same problem which is deciding changing my major..either to computer engineering or computer science...its really hard for me to decide which i like the most because i really love programming but at the same time i want to explore more of hardware stuff too...right now engineering looks so harder since all maths + physics subjects...and i heard that C.S.is not hard as C.E. so i had a thought of switching it...i dont know what should i do but i think i will just stick with engineering and then do computer science afterwards...hope everything works out !!

Investigate embedded computers, loads of hardware and programming

You will need to use a soldering iron, and have some reasonable mechanical skills, understand datasheets, and browse comp.arch.embedded

Imagine a difficult problem, say a global animal tracker, maybe an albatross or shark, design the software, hardware and power unit to work for one year, and design it, figure out what cannot be done

And don't forget to work out how much it will cost

At some point in your engineer career, way in the future you will ask yourself:

Why is it that the sales guy and marketing guy are making more than I am.

Why is it that the non-technical people in this (any) company is making more than I am.

Then it will be too late.

Take some marketing and sales classes. They will be boaring, there will be people in these classes that seem to be off in never-never land. But these people will make LOTS more money than you will ever make as an engineer.

There will be the people who are at the front of the line with their hands out for money. As an engineer you will be in the lab working and no one will tell you that "they" are giving out money.

Just as Dilbert, I am a cynic, who has lost out by doing the heavy lifting while the "higher ups" make tons of money.

Yes, playing with the toys is great. But, after a few kids and a mortage, you too will ask, why?

Good Luck

First, take remedial English, and maybe typing.

Then, since you're just starting, take all of the courses that sound interesting, and find out what works best for you. If you've got the bucks, you could do both.

Why?

Perhaps because simple carelessness on your part makes you seem to
be more important than you really are.

That is, if your readers have to spend an inordinate amount of
_their_ time trying to figure out what they might believe to be
cryptic, your spew might take on undeserved value.
