Terrible nightmare last night.

I dreamed my computer didn't turn on anymore.

Probably the powerbox was kaputt.

I couldn't get it working no more... I was deep in stress.

I was afraid the harddisks would get damaged, because of people or so moving the dead pc ?

(Neighbours were making terrible noise as well, *real*)

What do you think it all means ? :):):)

Bye, Skybuck.

Hmm, I have decided to burn my first (?) dvd with my most important data on it... (data backup)

Just in case.

Bye, Skybuck.

Hmmm yes I always run into all kinds of software problems, I have come to expect it.

  1. Winzip's evaluation period has expired, I knew that but:

  1. Windows XP X64's "Send To Zip Folder" feature is limited to 32 bits it seems, it can't handle 4 GB files.

Kinda fucky.

I do wanna compress my file disk images, from 5 GB to something more acceptable.

Not sure how much space is on DVD... but there is lots of unused space in

5GB file so it will compress good.

I guess I have no choice but to use WinRar instead :( which is a less well known compression tool (?!)

Oh well.

Bye, Skybuck.

Hmm strangely enough I can't unmount the filediskimages with the unmount batch file...

Hmmm I guess I will have to exclude the mount batch from startup and reboot without the file disk images and then I will try

"Send To Folder" one more time which will probably not work.

Yeah... files were in used WinRar said.

I will use WinRar anyway... because Microsoft's Software has the habit to keep throwing all kinds of suprises(=bugs) into my face ;)

Bye, Skybuck.

It means you need to stop drinking that cheap wine before going to bed...

It means that you need to put up the extra cash and use a dual layer dvd for burning that big file so you don't have to use those 'exotic' (sic) compression programs so you can feel reassured that your file is secure as a zip.

(lol)

I *dream* of your computer not turning on anymore.

That you're still taking way too much acid.

Or he could just learn about disk imaging programs.

Make backup. Use a reliable OS like FreeBSD. Where compression schemes won't fail on you.

There I go :)

Ok, feels a bit relieving, I should make two backups maybe... one for the fault and one at home... but neh... not gonna do that.

I am gonna bring my latest backup to the data fault :)

I also had an older data backup from 22 april 2007. Gonna keep that here.

Yeah that's a DVD as well.

So this was my second DVD it was interesting to here my DVD drive spin up again LOL.

Just as last time I used WinRAR... but this time I made sure the following was also on the DVD:

  1. The FileDisk Tool/Source/Executables packed inside a RAR.
  2. WinRar351 self extracting installer.
  3. Batchfiles for mounting the disk images.

A pc with a dvd drive and windows should now be able to easily restore the data backup if needed ;)

The write speed was fast 22 MB/sec ! The verification speed was only 11 MB/sec or so... probably because of memory compares.

WinRar probably needed an hour or so to compress 30 GB downto 2 GB or so.

I watched a nice ww2 movie... about trying to assinate winston churchill... but he was a look-a-like that got murdered lol.

Anyway I wonder if PC's maybe need integrated compression chips to speed stuff up.

Maybe integrated hash chips and encryption chips.

Gonna add comp.arch too for this.

Bye, Skybuck.

You are probably having a nervous breakdown. This can be treated by ingesting large quantities of alcohol. It won't cure you, mind, but you just won't give a festering f*ck.

That's funny. We all dreamed that your computer didn't turn on anymore as well.

But the dream was rather pleasant.

He reminds me of an old sig file I used to use:

I say, the boy is so stupid that he tried to make a back up copy of his hard drive on the Xerox machine!
