small area preision positioning

Jul 29, 2007 5 Replies

i need to position a small object of size 5mm x 5mm x x5mm with a resolution of 1mm in 3 dimensional space. Is this still under research or is it something that can be readily achieved? If yes, please point me to some commercially available modules and/or information about the technologies used in such modules.

Thank you

Try googling on "lead screw". For 1mm you don't need the anti- backlash versions.

1mm is low tech, indeed. _High_ tech would be 1um, which is achievable with some difficulty but probably still commercially viable.
Tim Wescott Wescott Design Services http://www.wescottdesign.com Do you need to implement control loops in software? "Applied Control Theory for Embedded Systems" gives you just what it says. See details at http://www.wescottdesign.com/actfes/actfes.html

Hi, You can try google with "microstage" or "micro-stage" controllers for precise XYZ positioning for micro elements.

ooooh im very sorry, this is not what i wanted. its not positioning, it should be localization or finding the position of that small object with in a given area with 1mm resolution by some means like ultrasound or something. its similar to GPS, but i need it with higher precision, higher resolution which can operate in a small area.

Im very sorry about my mistake.

thanks

Perhaps you want lasers and image sensors then.
