Slow downloaad of newsgroup

That would be a problem at Road Runner, not Usenet wide. Do they have any private newsgroups for customer support like Earthlink's?

Currently it takes up to 15sec for the SBC server to respond for this NG. That's a bit high. The other NGs are as fast as usual (1-2secs). But not 6mins.

Unfortunately someone has been uploading T Rex songs, no relation to the Crisco Lubricant, with level 86 encrypted data under MP22 which may or may not include information about the manufacture of Silver Shadows.

Normal service will be resumed as soon as is possible.

My ISP is currently doing upgrades to the news server, Maybe yours is doing the same. Random times I can't connect at all to the news server.

That's when groups.google.com comes in handy.

Sure, I have 1264 posts unread, around 300 I already marked as read. There's only 46 left in this view, the rest are ~80% in that "jihad needs scientists" crossposted piece of s*it.

At least the flaming is confined to one thread. Seems to keep things relatively clean overall, and it's easy to mark off.

I just killfile anyone who posts to that thread. A few exceptions, like John Popelish and a few others who normally contribute something worthwhile to electronics and just got led astray for a moment. But everyone else who spends 99% of their posts on useless personal opinion gets dumped.

That sure quieted things down a lot! XNews may show ~400 posts unread, but only 20 after filtering. This is a big savings. It's simply not worth the time and effort needed to sift through all their junk in the hopes you might get lucky and find one or two posts with something useful. And if they do accidentally manage to post something related to electronics, if it's any good someone else will post a reply. So you have a chance to pick up on it.

But that doesn't happen often, which validates the killfile. Regards,

Yes, Dave, I have been having intermitent slow loading of several electronics groups. Some days it's OK and some days I give up. I contacted my ISP (Knology) and they said the server that hosts the groups I was having the problem with aknowledged the problem and said they were working on it. After a couple of days I thought it was fixed, then it became slow again. Today it's OK. They gave me the servers website where they wrote about there troubles, but I don't know where that little slip of paper went. Mike

If you are getting connection errors when trying to connect, try using news.usenetserver.com, nntp2.usenetserver.com or nntp3.usenetserver.com. nntp1.usenetserver.com is almost to capacity while the other addresses are not.
