I took it outside where due to, ahem, global warming it was freaking cold. The reading off a retaining wall was 34F IIRC which pretty much corroborated what our outdoor thermometer said.

Well, it seems to work nicely to find out what gets hot on a board and roughly whether it's really bad or not. Ok, not 0603 parts like your FLIR camera but it does find the area where a resistor gets hot even it it's that small. Sure beats using fingers and burn gel.
