So he's just normalizing those fractions. Yes, it's fine.

jw + z1 is equivalent to z1 * ( 1 + jw/z1 ) . Same basic trick for the denominator.

Then he adds them as 20*log(quantity) + ... ( adding logs results in the log of the multiplicative product ).

the goal is to get a simplest chain of added logs to find alpha(omega).
