I remember reading a long time ago that trying to understand detailed workings of the brain with an EEG was like listening to distant sounds of gunfire in a war zone and trying to determine what each soldier on the battlefield was thinking. That statement was not meant to disparage the use of EEGs. It was made to illustrate how far we still had to go. As a percentage of how much there is to learn overall, I don't think we have progressed very much since that book was written.

So, you've never heard of micro-electrodes, fMRI, STEM etc? A *vast* amount is known of how the brain works at the neural level. The lack is at the higher levels of complexity, but those gaps are being filled fast eg

I didn't say that no progress has been made. I said "As a percentage of.......". If you have to walk ten thousand miles and you've walked an additional 5 miles since since the first mile was evaluated, that's still not very much in terms of the overall journey.

Well, soon we will have the tools to simulate brains of the complexity of the Human brain down to the molecular level. I think we will discover quite a lot.

No. Far deeper. You KNOW there is going to be normal grass there already, just as you know where the spot down the way is at, where the grass is 3 foot high "Johnson Grass". You NOTICE immediately when someone has there lawn planted in 1 inch tall "golf green zoysia" and when they use normal grasses we typically see. You can sometimes see it in their personalities too... ;-) Certainly *after* you've seen their lawn.

Well.. don't know if bytes would be the right term by my book. More like hard wired memories, which are what actual events become, almost like at younger ages they DO affect brain growth enormously so.. IF we are attentive, they can be part of our "presence of mind" as we age and grow up, and then, if all the magic is there, we can discern the best aim to take to make the pool shot...

That is all it is anyway. Quite chaotic, yet quite precise at the same time. You may have recognized some of the same qualities in me. ;-)
