rfpic kit or alternative ?

Hi, Im wanting to make a microcontroller comunicate wirelesly with a pc, whats the best/painless way to go ? theres a 'rfpic kit' wich has a development board and comes with 4 rf modules, but it looks to me it can only use 1 of the modules at any one time wich is a bit disapointing, is there any similar microcontroller development sytem but with 2 way communication to a PC ? or an easy to use (ttl)rf(rs232/usb etc) system/modules ? data rate is very low and range is within same room. I need to be able to send command bytes to it easily and read bytes back and into a file. although IR might be easier it might get obstructed.

Well, then PICk another one. My preferences:

  1. TRF6903
  2. CC1100
  3. TDA5100/5210

You need to have both transmitter and receiver on the same module.

Coming up soon.

How about 100K baud?

Got Bluetooth?

If not, there are modules which can handle the tedious details for you:

Cool thnks ive not come accros any of those il go have a look ...

Yeah i kinda knew that lol, cant see the point in only having being able to use the 1 module tx or rx on the board, I assumed the rfpic kit would of been more usefull/sensible.

That would be more than fine. being able to type text commands to send to it without having to make a device driver or app is needed (ie looks like a comm port or something)

Thanks bluetooth looks promising, if a little confusing at first theres so much to it, but all I seem to need is any usb bluetooth dongle to talk to any bluetooth device, theres loads of them all realy cheap on ebay but they all seem to be sold as if to talk to a specific device eg nokia xxx phone, yet say they can talk to any device, and the the bluesmirf (smurf ?) looks quite neat, looks like the bluetooth can assign a com port (com20) wich you can use with hyperterm wich is pretty much all i need :)

I just need to find where I can get it easily in the UK or something similar.

You choice is simple. Use FTDI USB to 232 and ARM micro locally. Jump over the channel for TDA5100/5210 RF chipset.

An easy way to do it is to use the nRF2401 modules from Spark Fun Electronics. I have two of them interfaced to PIC16F88 chips with RS-232 drivers, giving two-way communication with a PC. Range indoors is about 10 m.

Thanks but I've come accros toothpic ! one simple £5 dongle on the pc usb port, and the toothpic for the remote wich combines a bluetooth transceiver and a pic wich will fit my needs anyway, it can also boot load itself via the link, only downside is it seems to be out of stock anywhere here.
