Reconfiguring SMPS

Has anyone come across any sane ways to reconfigure an SMPS? There are a ton of ex computer ones out there - it'd be interesting to rework one to generate +12 V say.

I'm fairly certain that my name change to Genome Smith is going to give me a better chance of fondling her melons than dicking around with old bits of computer shit.

Obviously she will then make huge sexual demands upon my body and become totally satisfied and my bed will get a big soggy patch as we move about.

Then I will spend the rest of the night with a sticky bum listening to her snoring.

Sounds like a shit deal to me......

Well, you could put a 5 ohm, 10 watt resistor for a dummy load on the +5, and just use the +12V that's already there.

Good Luck! Rich

Ideally I'd like to up the amps on the 12 VDC supply, perhaps add a 24 VDC output.

It is possible. I modified an old AT PSU to deliver +/- 24V and +/-10V to power a sub-woofer. Only 24V is regulated, the other voltage may vary a bit depending on the load (which is nice, because the fan is now also running faster when the load is higher).

I un-tangled the common connection on the transformer and re-arranged the windings.

That is good to know. Computer SMPS are very available.
