Your description is very sparse, but let me see if I can get this discussion started with some guesses.

You're developing something new, called a 'portable rewinder'. Rewind implies it must also 'wind', yes?

What is max weight of an object, complete with any hooks or whatever is used to attach it? Through what height is it raised? Must it also lower the same weight? If not, how will cable be returned to its 'low' position? What are these objects, anyway? How do they get attached to the cable?

You won't get much practical help without providing details of the spool. Ideally a diagram or photo. If the spool's empty diameter is 5 mm, and the width of its winding space is 10 mm, then (for a given diameter of cable/string/wire or whatever you're using - you don't say), the motor's torque will prove inadequate to raise the weight much sooner than if those two dimensions were say 20 mm and 100 mm respectively. And, needless to say, the 'end flanges' must be deep enough to retain the cable throughout the lifting or lowering phase. (For the latter, unless the cable is sufficiently tensioned, it will probably tangle anyway.)

'All size'? Do you simply mean 'The device must fit in the hand.'?

The web, using google. But what will you do with the information you find? You've said nothing about your requirements. What factors are important? Capacity, cost, shelf life, weather tolerance, etc, etc?

What is your present motor? How are you powering it?

Why? A geared motor sounds more sensible to me. I use an inexpensive ex-screwdriver motor to operate my curtain controller, and that is powered by 2 x 1.5V C-type NiMH batteries, and has an in-built gear train.

the mind boggles. But if its pulling things along the floor youre going to have a lot of problems with catching and tangling. Have played with that one enough to know how unworkable it is.

why? If this is a junk product, as I suspect, a 3000rpm motor plus a belt drive to give some gearing is about as cheap as it gets.

Youre being cagey about your product, so much so, its impossible to help much. I cant honestly imagine what kind of hand held rewinder object retriever could possibly be saleable though, the catching and tangling issues would be a usability nightmare. Youd need a special controlled environment to make any such a thing workable. Perhaps youve got some clever idea upsleeve, but it really doesnt sound like it.

Its similar to wind and re-wind a long string to put in and out clothing. Similar to the cloth string. But need to be portable.

What are you trying to raise? If it's a theatrical curtain, a screwdriver motor is WAY too small - maybe try a garage door opener.

From the sketchy information that you have provided(r.g., no indication of what are the typical loads the motor will pull or rewind) the best battery would be sealed lead acid (SLA) -- very rugged and reliable and can be recharged with a simple linear charger.
