That's a nice article, the Nature one, not the ScienceDaily blurb. It sent me on a foray through perovskites, Henry Mosely's work on X-ray spectroscopy, the completion of the periodic table and the works of Bohr, Auger and father and son Bragg. And there's plenty more to follow up on! Very nice indeed.

The crucial point seems to be that you can put a lot of singe photon detector into a array, and measure the flux going through a lot adjacent pixels in parallel.

Single photon detectors are relatively slow because they can only detect one photon at a time and have to recover before they can detect the next one. Having lots of them detecting in parallel means that you can detect a complete image a whole lot faster. The science daily write-up does make this clear in passing, but lays a a lot more emphasis on the faster-cheaper result than the detector array feature that produces this result.

I keep seeing research about wonderful perovskite devices. Are any of them real? The solar cells and LEDs seem to have limited lifetimes.
