uying.

There seems to be no shortage of scared people on both sides, and ditto goe s for people and politicians ready to implement something silly so they can take credit for "fixing the problem" (or cover their ass)

I wouldn't be so sure, we recently had an inspection from health and safety

a soldering iron in the office is out of the question, doesn't matter if yo u only swap a resistor once a week, not allowed

Soldering must be done in a place with fume extraction and it must went to the outside, we have a Weller fume extractor with filters that isn't enough

You could ask the guys at Falcon for products and shipping prices.

I stumbled upon that site some time back and found their line of educational kits absolutely incredible. Never bought anything though, so I cannot offer a review.

Some kits about radio can be found at: Home > Product >Technical Education >ANALOG COMMUNICATION

Check their other kits too. If anyone here has ordered from them I'm interested in their opinion as well. Some of those kits seem just too beautiful to be true (or affordable by mere mortals).

Utter bullshit.

Now that's amazing. You can't even have tools in an industrial setting (forget them in the socialist schools). ...and you complain about us?

We have no issues with tools on our desks. No requirement (other than production) for pinko solder, either. I just bought a Weller station (with two heads and complete set of tips) for my cube. I doubt the circuit breakers will hold, though (four of us on a single circuit).

we can have tools including soldering irons, it is just that the rules are the same whether you solder a few parts a week or run a full prod uction, which just means everyone has a secret box with all the stuff you can't use

I can understand breaking some rules to get real work done (the intention of rules is to impede work) but a soldering iron? Your industrial policies are as bad as our leftist public schools'. Even at IBM we had rules about solder (a chemical, since it was sold by the pound) but it was easy to get approval (MSDS posted, etc.).

That's pretty funny, bloggs. It's a completely fabricated lie, but entertai ning nonetheless. I am not a frequent poster to s.e.d, but all you need do is search google groups for my posts. You may find a recent thread about re lays in which you were proven wrong... again.

You didn't prove anything except in you delusional mind. You're nothing mor e than another impotent little wannabe sage. Link us to an on-topic electro nics post you've made as a contribution. That's all you have to do, but you can't because you never have. You're just another useless little weakling with nothing to offer, a total hot air bag. Go away and stay away.

I don't see any specific rules that would prohibit lead soldering in an office, at least in Ontario.

Rosin decomposition products to be kept "as low as possible" and lead _time-weighted exposure_ less than 0.05 mg/m3.

Sounds like their H&S committee is out of control.

Radio Shack has a small inexpensive battery operated resistance soldering "tool" under the name ColdHeat. I've never tried it but it looks pretty tame. I'm not sure it's up to the task of higher volume jobs, but you could always make an AC adapter.

Don't know about CA, but there were issues with "lead fumes" some years back. OSHA was as stupid then as it is now (and people just as willing to be cowed).

But if you look on the internet you will find less complicated sound card based oscopes.

This one is a little work but better than most.

I didn't have to prove anything; other posters to this newsgroup did.

This is yet another example of why I should follow my own advice to simply ignore bloggs. It lies and simply will not accept the truth.

Goodbye, bloggs. You will not likely ever again see a response from me.

Is that you, Maynard? Seeing as how you're pushing 80yo, if you haven't grown up by now, you never will, just go away, you're the most obviously semi-retarded piece of crap on usenet.

That can be a lot of fun. I made a little mic. amp and took it home for my kids to play with. Along with my Rigol 'scope. We made all sorts of sounds and music and then looked at both the time signals and the FFT from the scope. You can get a Rigol for something less than $350 these days. (if that fits you budget.) (I also like the white proto board idea further upstream.) It's too bad about soldering. There are tech classes at my kids' school where they stil do this sort of thing.

Thanks. In that case I may get a DS1102E later this year.
