Amen. We're pretty careful about not putting +V and GND right next to each other on a punch block, too. Too easy to slip with a screwdriver or a test probe.

Just got back from a workday there - one of the tasks, as it happens, being installing and wiring some extra punch blocks to separate control signals from audio. They were separate initially, but then as things got more crowded we ended up sharing some; now we're back to normal.

That's why I do community radio. I've done a fair amount of commercial broadcast engineering over the years, and I'd willingly do more, but it's never been as close to my heart. Community and student radio is fun, because people only do it if they care.

I've used the kind I think you're talking about; but the ones at this particular station are "66 blocks", where the terminals are quite exposed. Common in older telco installs.

A bit more than 20 years ago, before I had much real-world experience, I wired a small student station entirely with crimp-on screw terminals. What a horrible mistake that was. We never got the bugs (from bad crimps) completely worked out, and it took a long time before my wrists recovered from the crimping. Punch blocks are MUCH better.

Punch blocks (of various sorts, but all plastic) are in very common use in broadcast studios, even modern state-of-the-art commercial ones.

They are also idiots. Walter Harley is a good for nothing ignorant and incapable peasant. The low life assumes the authority to configure the newsgroup while , as we can see, he lacks the capability of doing the slightest little thing. He's a chickensh_t, complaining, illiterate pot-head, like quite a few dead beat TRASH on USENET - a pretentious, ignorant, and uneducable little fake and phony. He's only slightly less aggravating than that Grease sh_thead/ thing/ noise source.

So what? What disorder is it that you have that impels you to bitch and piss and moan about other people's posting style? You are reminding me of the guy at the grocery store, in the express lane ("9 items or less") counting the other guy's groceries.

You are the owner of one of the most powerful computing machines ever imagined - and you're using it to COUNT OTHER PEOPLE's GROCERIES?

Just the day before yesterday, I was in the store, with one item, and I went to the express lane, and there was a guy with a shopping cart loaded to overflowing with soda pop. I asked, "Is that more than 15 items?" (this particular express lane was "15 or less"), and before the checkout girl or the customer had a chance to react, another checkout girl said, "Oh, I'm just opening this lane", pointing to another lane, and I was out of there in seconds. I was impressed! Maybe those store people really _do_ know where their money comes from! ;-)

The recommendation is one wire per slot. That is why there are multiple slotted terminals per row. This is usually in two sets of three, or a single set with six. There are stacking connectors to add more wires, or you can use more than one row. I would run a pair of cross connect wire between pairs of terminals to give me all the pairs I needed. Then, I could use bridging clips to isolate a pair for troubleshooting, or a temporary change without causing major work for later.

I have also used the "66" blocks for commercial sound work like school intercoms, or to allow a large number of speaker zones in a factory or office setting. I also used them when I taught crews to install large burglar alarm systems.

I still have a bunch of new "66" blocks with a 50 pin Amphenol "Blue ribbon" connector pre-wired to one side of the block to save wiring time. They were made for PBAX phone systems to simplify the wiring between the electronics and the building wiring. There is a less known version with a singer terminal per wire to a 50 pin Amphenol "Blue ribbon" connector that was originally used to terminate 1A2 type telephone wiring when they couldn't use connectorized cables, or to tap a line to add a second phone.
