Dear Colleaques,
I have a habit of making electrical enclosures using 5mm x 5mm rectangular posts, an example is tinyurl.com/3a3y7ks . The corner posts, made of brass in this case, are the main support structure into which you can add cover plates made of Al sheet. The cage structure which remains after removal of the side plates gives access to the PCB from all directions, which is nice during debugging.
It just is a pain to ask the technicians to make a new set of posts whenever I'm building a new enclosure. Now it occurs to me that such a simple thing - a rectangular metal bar with tapped holes at regular intervals, in alternating 90deg angles - surely are available as prefabricated items. Like as a part of a Meccano-like construction kit, or something. My posts use M3 tapped holes, but the dimensions are not critical, I can probably adjust to whatever is available.
Does this ring a bell, anybody?
Regards, Mikko
P.S. As this is Usenet, I guess the subject line can be twisted into some sort of a pun...
