posting an attachment

Can I post an attachment to sci.electronics design? It is unclear from the FAQ database as to whether this group is a Google group and therefore can post attachments via it's apparently undisclosed email address or a Usenet group and therefore cannot accept attacments. Dick

No don't. Only ever post binaries in alt.binaries.* regardless of whether it is a google group. Upload the file to megaupload.com and post a link here instead.

A possible solution for reading (not posting) to alt.binaries.schematics electronic is to use one of the free NNTP read-only servers such as dp-news.maxwell.syr.edu. They carry a few binaries groups, of which abse is one.

This is at least nominally a "non-binary" ("discussion-only") newsgroup. Attachments are frowned on at best here, and I suspect actual enforcement of such a policy here-and-there, also occaisionally via complaints to ISPs of those achieving posting of binaries.

This is a Usenet newsgroup. Most non-"alt" groups without explicit permission to post "binaries" (attachments) have policies ranging from "official" discouragement to either "officially" or as little as slightly encourage unofficial complainants to request ISPs to take action against users that violate these "rules"/rules.

The usual avenue nowadays to present an attachment to any of the sci.electronics.anything groups or most sci.anything groups or most non-alt.whatever groups is to post a link to something that you put up in your own web space, which many and probably most internet accounts provide.

The other avenue is to post binary attachments to alt.binaries.schematic.electronic and also post here a pointer to your schematic posted there.

Thank you, I wanted to show a couple of 'scope traces to show the results of filtering (two pictures are worth two thousand words?).

"Google Groups" and the "Microsoft Communities" are just a web based shells for the usenet news groups (along with numerous other web "forums". You can post binarys to non binary groups, but most will be filtered out and will never appear on most news servers. If you want to show a graphic or or a large file, just get a free web page like geocities and put the file there and then post a link. Much more efficient that posting to news groups.

Speaking of abse, are these masses of big posts from one source a denial of service attack or the result of some idiot not having a clue?

I am pretty sure that google groups is not identical to usenet. While google groups provides access to much (all?) of non-binary usenet, it also has groups which are not part of usenet (AIUI).

For binaries, you can post to alt.binaries.schematics.electronics, if your isp allows it, and if you are not posting from google groups. Not everyone can read that group, so a URL may be better.
