Say you're designing a 4-lane PCIe add-in card. If you plug this into a 16-lane slot in a PC, do the 4 used lanes have to be lanes 0 to 3 (if the PC's PCIe lanes are numbered 0-16)? Or could you use lanes 8-11? Or any other 4 adjacent lanes?
