He joined a Yahoogroup I run and posted his link. Despite misgivings based on a Google search, I gave him a chance. He misunderstood something I said (I was actually defending him from a snide remark someone else posted) and he went nuts. Posted a dozen messages name-calling me and other list members, posted pictures of his ass in Photos, posted flaming name calling in Links, Polls, and even the Database section. All within less than half an hour.

You can guess how he'd respond to a bug report or request for assistance with his software.

He rejoined Homebrew_PCBs after being banned and posted a lot more abusive garbage. Because of him, the Homebrew_PCBs list is now locked down and taking -way- too much of my time.

A few emailed me privately asking me for the dirty details, so here they are, with the dirty language obfuscated:

Ian or Nigel, not sure which is his real name, is trying to sell some PCB software that he wrote, or claims to have written. He'd gotten a bit of a snit after posting ads on Usenet where people reacted badly to him pretending he was an unaffilliated 3rd party, imagine that. At least one was disguised as a job offer.

I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt, since his first post to Homebrew_PCBs was straightforward. Leon made kind of a snide remark without explanation. I asked Leon not to make snide remarks and to please explain. Well, Ian/Nigel misread and thought I was saying that

-he- had made a snide remark.

Before he even replied to find out what I meant, he uploaded a dozen pictures of his ass and made a bunch of bogus links, databases, and polls with names and content like "The moderator is a f**king sheep shagger" and "you f**kers you f**kers you f**kers" a few dozen times, then posted a message asking what I meant, then posted 13 more messages with abusive language in the subject line or message, some just replying to member's posts with "you are a wanker" or "moderator is a c*nt".

Then he started sending me similar messages off list. I reported every single one to Yahoo.com, Yahoo.co.uk, his ISP, and eBay (since he is trying to sell his software on eBay).

Banned him, of course. Fortunately I'd left him moderated, so I only let his reasonable "what do you mean, snide?" reply through. He also emailed several other members off list with abuse, I encouraged them to report him and at least one reports that he did.

He rejoined under a slightly different Yahoo email and did the same to Files, Photos, Databases, Poles, and Links all over again. So now the list is set so that not only are new members moderated, every request to join requires moderator approval. All photos require moderator approval, and everything else can only be uploaded or created by the moderator. What a pain.

Nothing from eBay, but all the others responded with the standard "We've taken action as per our terms of use but can't tell you what".

Since then, two other Yahoo addresses tried to join, both had been created the same day as attempting to join. Sadly, they may be legitimate, but little things about them make me nervous. I don't have time for this.

Oh, and he'd done the same thing to the Homebrew_PCBs_Archives group, although no one but me can post, he'd filled all the other areas with abuse and pictures of his ass.

What he thinks he's accomplishing, I don't know.

His Yahoo addresses are/were ianbowskill, nigelwright7557, and ianbowskill2, and his email address is/was snipped-for-privacy@ukonline.co.uk.

His nigelwright7557 Yahoo profile is "404", but both of the other Yahoo profiles are still there.
