Take a look at a (Colpitts or is it Clapp) common collector oscillator. It is very easy to make one of these when you don't want to. All it takes is a longish base lead to make the inductance and some stry capacitance.
Isn't "Clapp" the one that gives you the itch ?:-)

Thats why I avoid that topology.
I prefer the combined Colpitts / Armstrong oscillator design.
That's a sweet circuit if you use the right guard.

When they were building the pulp mill, in one place I found about half a dozen crescent shaped steel plates cut with a torch. Took me a while to figure it. The welder had been trying to cut a flange with a radius cutting jig but after cutting the outer radius, rather than adjusting the radius he had changed the center. Took him a good many tries to figure it, if he ever did.
