OT: Whatzit?

[snip]

Hi Tom, I'm quite familiar with cotter pins... I'm old enough that I used to pack my own wheel bearings, and do my own brake jobs.

In this case I want quick change capability. I have other tools that go on there including a homemade one that I use to put baby birds back in their nest ;-)

You can't fool me, Jim! That pole's main use is to shake hands with the likes of Eeyore, Sloman, or Grice. That's really whey you need to lock it, so whatever you have screwed to the other end doesn't mange to escape and run away.

Not "shake hands"... rather run it up their arses ;-)

But I really do have a bird "replacer", made from a plastic electrical box, so I don't touch the bird and leave my smells... thus avoiding mama bird from shoving it out of the nest.

We have big problems here with birds nesting in outdoor fixtures,

rain scuppers, and very tall desert plants that sway severely in the wind.

I was trying to be polite! ;-)

So, what you really want a quick release like those used on some colapsible saw for trimming tree branches so you can just tug the rope and it will let go, and spare ends rather than a screw on coupling. ;-)

I believe you, but we have some birds of prey that attack any thing that doesn't hide their nest. One of my neighbors bought some ducks. Rather than complain to animal control about the noise, we just waited. A week later, they had all been snatched and carried off. She tried it a second time, then gave up after she found bloody clumps of feathers. Now she has them in cages at her boyfriend's place out in the forest.

Same here, that's why the birds build nests in house structures... Big Bird, aka Great Horned Owl, can't get at them so easy.

Too bad they don't like stuffed donkeys, or eBay spammers. :(

I don't recall that there was ever much interaction between Eeyore and Wol, but I'm not an expert on the canon. I dimly recall that Wol was consulted on the matter of a missing tail, and gave evasive answers.
