OT: organic farming versus conventional agriculture

Lol. That must be why we hear so much about the plight of the small farmer. Maybe by "small" they really mean "stupid"?

Re-check those prices, they're running 2x the non-organic equivalents.

I haven't researched the details but rumor has it the organic in organic products isn't what it used to be, especially the dairy.

Sounds like you're out to lunch on the pricing. Wife does the grocery shopping?

Plus you have to be able to fix a computer with a piece of baling wire. ;)

HDMI cable.

I can't believe the prices some idiots pay for audio interconnects. There are even those who think a $1200 IEC power cord is a "special" item.

I have a bridge to sell them.

I heard an interview with a farm family, three guys who own multiple farms, hundreds of acres. Remore sensors and cameras everywhere. Plowing is mostly done with GPS guided remote-control machines with nobody on site. They mostly stay in town and manage their finances.

My daddy-in-law was a sugar cane and cayenne pepper farmer [1] who could fix anything on the spot, a good mechanic and welder. He thought I was a city boy fop until he saw me fix my own car.

[1] well, he also got paid for not growing corn.

lol. Boiling down the word salad to the gooey essence, you nailed it.

But if the rich idealist folk may it sound tasty, then what does it matter if poor people have empty stomachs?

And they also shouldn't confuse the accounting cost from the economic cost.

Um, not necessarily in farming. The price can vary due to supply reasons, like say, for example, a drought. And there are other supply problems that can happen in any industry.

Hey, our farmer's market, in the Bart parking lot on Saturdays, has local-grown organic bananas and pineapples.

Potatoes, grapes, and oranges.

One wants three different root depths; trees, shrubs, herbs have deep roots, medium, and surface roots, so get the best benefit from available water. This works best with minimum tillage, and some other adjustments... or so I hear. I can only grow hardy nuisance plants, like mint, oregano, and blackberries.
