KIT's (silicon/organic/light) cpu 4x times faster than Intels' Record :)

Hello,

German story about a processor/cpu(?) which uses silicon and carves lanes inside the silicon and fills it with some kind of organic substance... then it's heated to vaporizing point... the lanes transmit at the speed of light ?!

Pretty cool.

Hello Skybuck,

The German article is somewhat misleading.

The abstract form here shows what it really is. It's an integrated optical 1 to 4 demultiplexer (170.8Gb/s -> 42.7Gb/s) based on a clever combination of silicon and organic material. Of course there can be additional processing implemented in the silicon part.

Best regards, Helmut Germany

Speaking of organic computing...:

Stupid methodology..even if the result was as you "say". There are better ways to get a cat out of its skin.

What about the brain..organic..lotza processing (even after the pre-processing at and near the retina); more processing (even after the pre-processing at and near the ear); etc.
