Hall sensors versus shunts?



I was looking into a current sensing method for my universal PIC PWM controller.



I was wondering if I could use a Hall sensor.... Advantages of using the Hall sensor, is more output signal, and DC isolation.



A shunt method needs: 1 opamp, 1 shunt, some resistors, and perhaps capacitors. A PCB mount Hall sensor module only needs itself.

Both would seem to fit nicely?



Has anybody here any experience with hall sensors, and what about drift and open - versus closed loop performance?



I may just order some to try it out.

Nice, it requires calibrating it seems, while the ones in the link I mentioned are about the same price and calibrated already, but are much bigger. I see about 10 $ for the CSA-1V. It is good to know those things work reliably. Their application notes (Melexis) make great reading, just learned some from it.

I also appreciate that the files are Named properly and have real URL's so it is readily found by f.ex. Google.
