The mob left because Guliani leaned on them with constant surveilance of their front businesses.
The pay scales reflect that. Living in (cheaper) Queens or Brooklyn and working in Manhattan you can do very well.
Manhattan is a place to work and nothing else. Restaurants in Queens are better for less money too.
I never had much sympathy for drug dealers. I went to school with a few and they were merely slimy, but others are worse than slimy.
That was not the same guy. Even though the cop in the first case had a psychotic break, most of those who break don't break like that. In the second case the guy went for his pocket when they told him to put his hands up, they fired a couple of shots one of which ricocheted into a cop's leg and then they opened up on him. There was a case of serial rapes and he was a suspect, and the rapes stopped afterwards.
Those tactics are what changed the number of murders from 2400 to 300 per year, and it went back up when the cops were pulled back. Take your choice.
When a home team in any sport wins a championship in Detroit, L.A., or Miami, the fans riot and burn cars. When a NYC team wins we have a parade with 2 million spectators and nobody burns anything. That's what actually happened in the 90's but the other cities have gotten better.
YEAH, we here can appreciate that!!!
I had to have the walk out basement door widened to accommodate the P&P machine.

I have an 1100 square foot room, that is only compromised by a couple of support posts under the main floor beam. I have a CNC Bridgeport mill, a big lathe, sheet metal shear and finger break, TIG welder, laser photoplotter, PCB etcher and a few other machines in there, in addition to the P&P machine.

Aside from the small time players that deal exclusively in weed, they're selling a "product" that destroys lives. Of course they're slimy people -what were you expecting?
The big time players certainly have some intelligence - it's a business like any other and to succeed at it for any length of time one has to know how to manage money, operate a power structure, and do the best one can to isolate oneself from risk. But that success is predicted on others taking the fall for them.
Some intelligence, but sociopaths nonetheless.

I wasn't expecting any better. I only said I don't have sympathy for them when their cars and houses are confiscated.
Nonsense.
Oh, nothing that big. Just a cabinet saw, drill press, router table, and a boat load of benches. I don't do electronics on my time.

You're so full of shit.
And you're full of bile, but shit is more refined.
That is except for the fact that what I wrote is true.
Hello All,
You guys are hilarious.
But for those might truly believe.... I can attest that everyday life here is not like the "Law and Order" episodes. Though many media reports appear to promote such things. If anything, I think we have too *much* tourism... ;-)
Keep up the fun, Rich S.
Anyone trying to walk down 5th Ave in the second half of December would have to agree!
In terms of travel time, I live closer to Midtown than a lot of people (maybe most) in the outer boroughs. I wouldn't much like living in the city, but it's great being close to it.
Cheers
